SailGP reveals plans for a 14-event fourth season
First venues announced in an expanded season that will visit four continents in 2023-24
Anyone in doubt that SailGP has anything but a bright future ahead of it will surely have their doubts allayed by the news that the international high-performance sailing circuit – conceived and implemented by Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts – is expanding its regatta schedule to 14 events for its fourth season.
That’s nearly triple the slate for the first season and sees the schedule expanded into bumper season that spans 14 months and visits four continents.
SailGP season four will open on June 17-18, 2023 in Chicago where this summer crowds packed onto Navy Pier for the Season 3 edition of the T-Mobile United States Sail Grand Prix.
Then it will be on to Europe for the next five events.
The venues for the first three Euro regattas are yet to be announced but the final two will be Taranto, Southern Italy on September 23-24 (last visited in season two) before a third visit for the league to the Spanish city of Cádiz in Andalucía on October 14-15.
After Europe the SailGP bandwagon heads to the Middle East for two events – locations yet to be announced – on November 18-19 and December 9-10, before pushing on to Asia in the new year for the second edition of the Singapore Sail Grand Prix on January 13-14, 2024.
Next, the city of Sydney will then host SailGP for a record fifth time when the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix takes place on February 17-18.
After visiting Christchurch, New Zealand this season in 2024 the action will switch to Auckland as part of a four-season alternating multi-city hosting arrangement as the sailing mad city plays host on March 16-17.
From there it will be back to the northern hemisphere for the Bermuda Sail Grand Prix on May 4-5 before two more North America events.
Although neither of the North American venues has been revealed there is strong potential for one of them to be the first home event for the Canada SailGP Team, before season four comes to a climax on July 13-14, 2024 at the one million dollar Grand Final somewhere in the United States.
Currently at the halfway mark, SailGP season three continues next week in Cádiz for the NEAR Spain Sail Grand Prix, before heading to the Middle East for the Dubai Sail Grand Prix presented by P&O Marinas on November 12-13 at Mina Rashid, to complete 2022.
2023 will see the league head to Singapore, Sydney and Christchurch before the big money Grand Final in San Francisco in May.
